From the life of unusual people: the underground temple of Levon

In the spring of 1985, Tosya habitually sawed Levon, demanding to dig a cellar for storing potatoes. No less habitually joking, Levon picked up a shovel and began digging ground at the bottom of the basement, designed for homework.

Or maybe everything was completely wrong, and Levon with joy and impatience dropped everything, responding to the affectionate request of his wife, but the result was the same - the shovel first stuck into the earthen floor of the basement in a house located in the village of Arinj, which is completely near Yerevan ...

Since then, 44-year-old Levon began to build his temple. They say that he soon had a dream in which some mysterious voice from above said that he was destined to dig out an underground temple from seven halls, with an altar, columns and other attributes of the sanctuary.

Two minutes ago, I knocked on the door of the most ordinary house, and now I am going down into some incredible catacombs.

23 years of work of the hands of one person for 18 hours a day. 21 meter depth. 150 meters of interlaced corridors. Shovel and bucket, hammer and chisel.

Not a single drawing. Many ideas, the direction of further work and decoration dreamed of Levon at night and was dictated by a “voice from above”.

The funny thing is that I read all this about "21 meters deep" in advance, even before going here. But in my head only revolves: "Stunned! It does not happen."

Hungry 90s. Fan outages and continued operation by candlelight. Children who grew up under the hammer knocks constantly coming from the basement.

And everything, absolutely everything around him, including his wife, consider Levon crazy.

Maybe crazy. Only now when I find myself in such places, then again I am convinced that a person can do absolutely everything. No matter what.

I recommend a place to visit.
