An archive of photographs of the indigenous population of the USA at the end of the 19th century

The site of the American Antique Society has access to an interesting collection of old photographs dedicated to the indigenous population of the United States. Over two hundred photographs taken between 1879 and 1902 were digitized and presented to the general public. The author of the photo is photographer John N. Choate. During this period, the American worked as a photographer at an Indian school in Pennsylvania.

Such schools were created in order to "cultivate" the natives, introduce them to the European civilized way of life and culture, and also help them to integrate into society.
