Trees also want to dance: why trunks are curved

This artificial pine forest, numbering about 400 trees, was planted by man in the 30s of the last century. The hypothesis about the origin of this strange place was put forward by a great many. It was assumed that the blame was a strange virus or genetic disease that affected trees in this area of the forest. Then they remembered that during the Second World War, German troops during the retreat could leave poisonous chemicals in these places, which affected the anomalous form of tree growth. They even suggested that people could consciously give them an artificial shape when landing. This was allegedly done in order to then make furniture or household items from arched trunks. But this version also did not find convincing confirmation.

Interestingly, similar trees are found in other places of our planet. Another dancing forest grows in the Kaliningrad region in the territory of the Curonian Spit National Park. Scientists believe that everything is explained by completely natural reasons. Presumably, the trunks of the pines are damaged by the larva of the parasite, which settles on the pines at a young age. Its activity also gives the trunks a curved appearance. According to another version, the cause of this unusual phenomenon may be strong winds that are common in these parts.

But while scientists puzzle over the origin of this kind of pines, they continue to delight tourists with their unusual appearance.
