Necropolis near Kerch: "alien tomb" or burial of the Sarmatians

The grave of a baby with a deformed skull was found in Crimea during excavations at the necropolis of Kyz-Aul near Kerch. Although many UFO lovers have already christened the find "the alien’s grave", it is a matter of burying a child from the Sarmatian people, for whom such artificial changes in the shape of the skull were commonplace.

A find for ufologists

The burial of an infant dates back to the 2nd century A.D. The child was buried according to barbaric traditions. Near the skeleton, archaeologists found a molded vessel near the deformed head, small beads, pasta glass and a copper alloy bracelet worn on the right hand. The burial itself was a soil grave without slab ceilings.

Anthropologists have determined that this was a boy who at the time of death was no more than 1.5 years old. It turns out that his head was deformed almost immediately after birth.

In the layer where archaeologists found the burial of the boy, there are burials from the 1st century BC. and until the III century BC The monumental stone crypts, which are considered the tombs of the Sarmatized military nobility of the Bosporan kingdom, belong to the same period. One of these crypts is located only three meters from the burial.

Catalyst of aggression

Deformation of the skulls is most often found in Sarmatians, especially later ones, and is one of the signs of their identification, scientists explain. The first artificially deformed skulls were found by Paul Dubrucks, the founder of Bosporus archeology, in 1826 in the necropolises of the Bosporus of Cimmeria, in the Kerch region. Most likely, such a cruel procedure was carried out to indicate belonging to a group or to show social status.

Some researchers believe that deformation of the skulls could lead to a change in the character of a person, including increased aggressiveness. The Sarmatians were a very aggressive people who constantly participated in military conflicts. Perhaps the buried boy in the future could become a fierce and fearless warrior - largely thanks to this operation.
