You won’t believe it, but this flower field was until recently the driest desert on the planet!

Atacama Desert, located in Chile, is the driest non-polar desert on Earth. But even in this seemingly barren wasteland miracles sometimes occur. From time to time, one can observe a real natural phenomenon: if during the spring (we have this October-November), heavy rains occur in the desert, then the flowers "sleeping" under the surface of the dried earth suddenly bloom and explode in color.

Desert flowering this year was the result of the same weather conditions that spawned Hurricane Patricia. “The flowering intensity this year is simply unprecedented,” says Daniel Diaz, director of the Atacama National Tourism Service. “And the fact that it happened twice a year is unique, it has never happened before in the country's history. We are surprised.”

This event attracted thousands of tourists to the country. They came to see this amazing sight with their own eyes.

Usually this desert looks like this.
