Glacier in the Alps threatens the Italian village and can break at any time

You might think that the Alpine Glacier Planpinier specifically chose the time for his menacing downward movement, timed to coincide with this climate summit at the UN. Against the backdrop of heated discussions of climate change on the planet, the news that a large glacier in the Alps could break at any moment, blocking the freeway and destroying the buildings below, sounded like another reminder that humanity has no more time for thought.

Planpinier Glacier

At the foot of the Grand Joras is an Italian village whose residents are concerned about the intense displacement of their formidable neighbor. Urgent routes were closed and residents of that part of the village located in close proximity to the alleged collapse were evacuated.

Mont Blanc Massif

It should be noted that Planpinje, located on the slopes of the Mont Blanc massif, is far from the only glacier experiencing a reduction in area and intensive movements of the ice mass. Scientists have recorded such changes on almost all glaciers in the Alps, some of them have already reduced their area by 50% or more, and some have even disappeared, such as the Pitztal Glacier in Switzerland.

The Mont Blanc massif is currently the most important mountaineering center, where several dozens of sports routes of various degrees of difficulty have been laid. Melting glaciers and global warming have led to increased risks in tourism associated with an increase in the number of landslides, landslides and rockfalls. In this regard, a special program is being implemented in the area of the Mont Blanc massif, aimed at reducing the negative effects of global warming and reducing risks in mountaineering.

Unfortunately, climatologists' forecasts cannot please the inhabitants of the alpine region. Existing forecasting models lead to different conclusions, but all of them promise to reduce at least 70% of the area of alpine glaciers by the end of the century.
