Urban density: photos showing what it means to live in crowded Hong Kong

As one of the most populous places in the world, Hong Kong has adapted its architecture to meet the needs of its residents. This led to the appearance of many cramped tall buildings. In his series “Urban Density,” the travel photographer Dietrich Herlan focused on the extraordinary eclectic development of the city, which, despite its diversity, makes Hong Kong integral.

Herlan's pictures evoke mixed feelings. On the one hand, the grandeur of these skyscrapers causes some indescribable trepidation, but on the other hand, a person suffering from claustrophobia is unlikely to be comfortable while viewing pictures. But in Herlan's works there is no condemnation, only the study of forms, symmetry and color.
