Lake Jack London: where is one of the most beautiful reservoirs of Russia

In the Far East, in the Magadan region, a surprisingly picturesque body of water is located - Lake Jack of London. Together with the adjacent territory, the lake is part of the eponymous natural park. The famous American writer, whose name is the lake, has never been in the Magadan region and even more so has nothing to do with the reservoir itself. Why, then, the lake has such an unusual name, we will tell in our review.

One of the most beautiful lakes in our country, Lake Jack of London, is located in the Kolyma River basin, at an altitude of 803 meters in the Annachag Mountains. This is a fairly large body of water, extending 10 kilometers in length and about 1-2 kilometers in width, with a total area of 14.4 square meters. km The depth of the lake, on which there are four islands, reaches 50 meters.

The lake is located in the middle of taiga forests, on the border of their growth. On the shore there is a larch woodland, a little higher is a strip of cedar dwarf, which is replaced by a mountain tundra. The climate here is severe, sharply continental, with long cold winters and short, moderately warm summers. For this reason, Jack London's lake is covered with ice from October to June, but the remnants of the ice can be seen here in July.

Despite the severity of taiga weather, the beauty of this place invariably attracts lovers of outdoor activities and, of course, fishing. The waters of the lake are rich in a variety of fish, especially a lot of valuable grayling. Since the lake is located in the territory of the natural park, it is allowed to fish here only for fishing. The lake attracts photographers and active tourists: in its vicinity are Aboriginal Peak and Challenger Peak, and several eco-tourism trails run through the Jack London Lake Park.
